David C Cook gives away a free eBook every week. The one for this week is called Dreaming of More for the Next Generation by Michelle Anthony. I have not read it yet, but it looks like it may be good enough to be worth sharing. I may review it at some point, but I’m going through several other books right now, and the giveaway only lasts for a week.
Dreaming of More
The website describes the book as follows:
Filled with stories from one ministry professional to another, Dreaming of More for the Next Generation includes practical ways to equip parents to partner with the church in faith formation, inspiration and ideas for incorporating remembrance and celebration, creative ways to motivate children and teenagers to step out of their comfort zones and rely on the Holy Spirit, and insight into how God uses each person’s life as part of a unique story that is told throughout the generations.
Having not read the book, I can’t say whether I agree with the methods Michelle Anthony proposes, but I strongly agree with the necessity for family integration in the church. When we segment into different age groups, we stunt growth and do great harm to the body. I also believe it is vital that parents dedicate themselves to actively training their own children, rather than just allowing a youth pastor to take over their job.
Flipping through the book, I see that it starts with “Seven Pillars of Family Ministry,” which are listed as follows:
- Family Is Primary
- Spiritual Formation Is Our Goal
- The Holy Spirit Is Our Teacher
- Scripture Is Our Authority
- The Big God Story
- God Is Central
- Ministry Support
I have thus far been quite impressed with each book I have read from David C Cook (such as Messy Church, which I reviewed recently), and I have a feeling I’m going to enjoy this one as well. Either way, it’s only free for a week, so grab it now. If you miss the giveaway, you can always buy it as a paperback or an eBook.
