A Year of Change and Thankfulness

The McKnights

This has been a year of huge changes. In every instance, I’ve only gained more reasons to be thankful to God. I’d just like to take a moment to publicly praise him for a few of the things he has done for me.

My wife

The New Year will mark the first full calendar year that I’ve been married to my wife, Tessa. My gratitude for her could not possibly find full expression in words. In the midst of our many, sometimes-challenging events of 2013, she has stood by me with unwavering support. I am truly a blessed man.

Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing,
and obtains favor of Yahweh. (Proverbs 18:22, WEB)

My son

This year, Tessa gave birth to our first child, Qoheleth Andrew McKnight. Holding a newborn son in your hands is one of those things that just can’t be fully appreciated until it happens to you. Watching him learn to hold his head up, then sit up, then crawl, and now almost stand has been incredible. His smile is irresistible.

Behold, children are a heritage of Yahweh.
The fruit of the womb is his reward. (Psalm 127:3, WEB)

My lost job

It may seem strange to thank God for something like unemployment, but I would not trade the experience. It is one thing to say we trust in God when we already have everything we need. It is another thing entirely to rely on God every day to provide food for my family. But he has never let us down.

Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you.
He will never allow the righteous to be moved. (Psalm 55:22, WEB)

My new job

My unemployment lasted for several months, but God provided once more with a new opportunity. We had to move all the way across the country, but it was worth it for a job at Logos Bible Software. It’s really hard to believe that I get to work here now. And Bellingham, Washington, is beautiful.

A man’s heart plans his course,
but Yahweh directs his steps. (Proverbs 16:9, WEB)

My friends

We’ve had to say goodbye to many dear friends. We’ve made quite a few new friends along the way. All of our friends, old and new, have been incredibly helpful. I thank God for each and every one of you.

A friend loves at all times;
and a brother is born for adversity. (Proverbs 17:17, WEB)

Father, thank you for these and so many other blessings. May I never cease to praise you! Amen.

What has God done for you in 2013?
